Ishi (Heb., ‘[God has] saved [me]’). The name of members of the Judean (1 Chron. 4:20), Simeonite (1 Chron. 4:42), and Yerahmeelite (1 Chron. 2:31) branches of the Calebites as well as a leader of the Transjordanian Manassites (1 Chron. 5:24). It is also a term used by the KJV to transliterate the Hebrew term ‘my husband,’ which, according to Hos. 2:16 (Hebrew v. 18), is to be used instead of ‘my master’ (Heb. baali) for God.
