Some abbreviations used in the BibleTexts.com Bible Commentary

This Web page is located at http://www.bibletexts.com/abbrev.htm.

a/r = To be better understood or to be correctly understood by modern readers, substitute the replacement wording (in italics) for the KJV wording (in all uppercase).

c/m = The English word used by the KJV has changed meanings since 1611.

omit = The English word used by the KJV does not have a corresponding word in the original Hebrew or Greek text of that book of the Bible. (Most often this is due to an incorrect Hebrew or Greek text from which KJV translators' used, where words, phrases, or even entire verses were added by later copyists.

Greek a/r: = The Textus Receptus Greek text used by the KJV translators was incorrect, and the words following TO: represent the original Greek text, as found in the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament, Fourth Revised Edition. Sometimes such incorrect wording in the Greek text resulted in the KJV's translation not representing the meaning of the original Greek texts. Most modern translations use the corrected Greek text, as represented in the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament, Fourth Revised Edition. Any Greek text shown in square brackets (for example [kai]) represents the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament Editorial Committee' division over whether or not that text was part of the original Greek text. If there is no English translation preceding and corresponding with the "Greek a/r" or "Greek omit" or "Greek add", then the correction in Greek did not result in a significant enough change to alter the English translation.

Greek omit = The Textus Receptus Greek text used by the KJV translators was incorrect. The following Greek word, phrase, or verse was in the Textus Receptus [TR] but represents an erroneous addition to the original text. Usually, though not always, such incorrect additions to the Greek text resulted in incorrect additions to the English translation by the KJV translators. Most modern translations use the corrected Greek text, as found in the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament, Fourth Revised Edition. (See "NOTE" above, under the explanation of "Greek a/r:")
