<GT> John 8

KJV w/Strong# - {32} And ye shall know <1097> the truth <225>, and the truth <225> shall make <1659> you free <1659>.

NRSV - 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

TEV - "Free Men and Slaves" - 31 So Jesus said to those who believed in him, "If you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples; 32 you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." 33 "We are the descendants of Abraham," they answered, "and we have never been anybody's slaves. What do you mean, then, by saying, "You will be free'?"

<RR> John 18

KJV w/Strong# - {28} Then <3767> led <71> they Jesus <2424> from Caiaphas <2533> unto the hall <4232> of judgment <4232>:...

{29} Pilate <4091> then <3767> went <1831> out unto them, and said <2036>, What <5101> accusation <2724> bring <5342> ye against <2596> this <5127> man <444>? {30} They answered <611> and said <2036> unto him, If <1487> he were not a malefactor <2555>, we would not have delivered <3860> him up unto thee.

{33} Then <3767> Pilate <4091> entered <1525> into <1519> the judgment <4232> hall <4232> again <3825>, and called <5455> Jesus <2424>, and said <2036> unto him, Art <1488> thou the King <935> of the Jews <2453>?

{36} Jesus <2424> answered <611>, My kingdom <932> is not of this <5127> world <2889>: if <1487> my kingdom <932> were of this <5127> world <2889>, then would my servants <5257> fight <75>, that I should not be delivered <3860> to the Jews <2453>: but now <3568> is my kingdom <932> not from hence <1782> {37} Pilate <4091> therefore <3767> said <2036> unto him, Art <1488> thou a king <935> then <3766>? Jesus <2424> answered <611>, Thou sayest <3004> that I am <1510> a king <935>. To this <5124> end was I born <1080>, and for this <5124> cause came <2064> I into <1519> the world <2889>, that I should bear <3140> witness <3140> unto the truth <225>. Every <3956> one that is of the truth <225> heareth <191> my voice <5456>. {38} Pilate <4091> saith <3004> unto him, What <5101> is truth <225>?...

NRSV - 28 Then they took Jesus from Caiaphas to Pilate's headquarters....

29 So Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this man?" 30 They answered, "If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you."

33 Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"

36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here." 37 Pilate asked him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." 38 Pilate asked him, "What is truth?"...

TEV - "Jesus before Pilate" - 28 Early in the morning Jesus was taken from Caiaphas' house to the governor's palace. The Jewish authorities did not go inside the palace, for they wanted to keep themselves ritually clean, in order to be able to eat the Passover meal. 29 So Pilate went outside to them and asked, "What do you accuse this man of?" 30 Their answer was, "We would not have brought him to you if he had not committed a crime." 31 Pilate said to them, "Then you yourselves take him and try him according to your own law." They replied, "We are not allowed to put anyone to death." (32 This happened in order to make come true what Jesus had said when he indicated the kind of death he would die.) 33 Pilate went back into the palace and called Jesus. "Are you the king of the Jews?" he asked him. 34 Jesus answered, "Does this question come from you or have others told you about me?" 35 Pilate replied, "Do you think I am a Jew? It was your own people and the chief priests who handed you over to me. What have you done?" 36 Jesus said, "My kingdom does not belong to this world; if my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. No, my kingdom does not belong here!" 37 So Pilate asked him, "Are you a king, then?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. I was born and came into the world for this one purpose, to speak about the truth. Whoever belongs to the truth listens to me." 38 "And what is truth?" Pilate asked.

<B1> Psalm 100

KJV w/Strong# - {1} Make a joyful <07321> noise <07321> unto the LORD <03068>, all <03605> ye lands <0776>.

{5} For the LORD <03068> [is] good <02896>; his mercy <02617> [is] everlasting <05769>; and his truth <0530> [endureth] to all generations <01755>.

NRSV - 1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth.

5 For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

TEV - "A Hymn of Praise" - 1 Sing to the LORD, all the world! 2 Worship the LORD with joy; come before him with happy songs! 3 Acknowledge that the LORD is God. He made us, and we belong to him; we are his people, we are his flock. 4 Enter the Temple gates with thanksgiving; go into its courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise him. 5 The LORD is good; his love is eternal and his faithfulness lasts forever.

<B2> Psalm 119

KJV w/Strong# - {151} Thou [art] near <07138>, O LORD <03068>; and all <03605> thy commandments <04687> [are] truth <0571>.

{160} Thy word <01697> [is] true <0571> [from] the beginning <07218>: and every <03605> one of thy righteous <06664> judgments <04941> [endureth] for ever <05769>.

NRSV - 151 Yet you are near, O LORD, and all your commandments are true.

160 The sum of your word is truth; and every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever.

TEV - "A Prayer for Deliverance" - 145 With all my heart I call to you; answer me, LORD, and I will obey your commands! 146 I call to you; save me, and I will keep your laws. 147 Before sunrise I call to you for help; I place my hope in your promise. 148 All night long I lie awake, to meditate on your instructions. 149 Because your love is constant, hear me, O LORD; show your mercy, and preserve my life! 150 My cruel persecutors are coming closer, people who never keep your law. 151 But you are near to me, LORD, and all your commands are permanent.

"A Plea for Help" - 160 The heart of your law is truth, and all your righteous judgments are eternal.

<B3> Isaiah 50

KJV w/Strong# - {10} Who <04310> [is] among you that feareth <03373> the LORD <03068>, that obeyeth <08085> the voice <06963> of his servant <05650>, that walketh <01980> [in] darkness <02825>, and hath no <0369> light <05051>? let him trust <0982> in the name <08034> of the LORD <03068>, and stay <08172> upon his God <0430>.

NRSV - 10 Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant, who walks in darkness and has no light, yet trusts in the name of the LORD and relies upon his God?

TEV - "The Obedience of the LORD's Servant" - 10 All of you that honor the LORD and obey the words of his servant, the path you walk may be dark indeed, but trust in the LORD, rely on your God. 11 All of you that plot to destroy others will be destroyed by your own plots. The LORD himself will make this happen; you will suffer a miserable fate.

<B4> Isaiah 45

KJV w/Strong# - {18} For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> that created <01254> the heavens <08064>; God <0430> himself <01931> that formed <03335> the earth <0776> and made <06213> it; he hath established <03559> it, he created <01254> it not in vain <08414>, he formed <03335> it to be inhabited <03427>: I [am] the LORD <03068>; and [there is] none <0369> else <05750>. {19} I have not spoken <01696> in secret <05643>, in a dark <02822> place <04725> of the earth <0776>: I said <0559> not unto the seed <02233> of Jacob <03290>, Seek <01245> ye me in vain <08414>: I the LORD <03068> speak <01696> righteousness <06664>, I declare <05046> things that are right <04339>.

{22} Look <06437> unto me, and be ye saved <03467>, all the ends <0657> of the earth <0776>: for I [am] God <0410>, and [there is] none <0369> else <05750>.

NRSV - 18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it a chaos, he formed it to be inhabited!): I am the LORD, and there is no other. 19 I did not speak in secret, in a land of darkness; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, "Seek me in chaos." I the LORD speak the truth, I declare what is right.

22 Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

TEV - "The LORD of Creation and History" - 18 The LORD created the heavens -- he is the one who is God! He formed and made the earth -- he made it firm and lasting. He did not make it a desolate waste, but a place for people to live. It is he who says, "I am the LORD, and there is no other god. 19 I have not spoken in secret or kept my purpose hidden. I did not require the people of Israel to look for me in a desolate waste. I am the LORD, and I speak the truth; I make known what is right."

"The LORD of the World and the Idols of Babylon" - 22 "Turn to me now and be saved, people all over the world! I am the only God there is. 23 My promise is true, and it will not be changed. I solemnly promise by all that I am: Everyone will come and kneel before me and vow to be loyal to me. 24 "They will say that only through me are victory and strength to be found; but all who hate me will suffer disgrace. 25 I, the LORD, will rescue all the descendants of Jacob, and they will give me praise.

<B5> John 1

KJV w/Strong# - {1} In the beginning <746> was the Word <3056>, and the Word <3056> was with God <2316>, and the Word <3056> was God <2316>.

{14} And the Word <3056> was made <1096> flesh <4561>, and dwelt <4637> among <1722> us, (and we beheld <2300> his glory <1391>, the glory <1391> as of the only <3439> begotten <3439> of the Father <3962>,) full <4134> of grace <5485> and truth <225>.

{16} And of his fulness <4138> have all <3956> we received <2983>, and grace <5485> for grace <5485>. {17} For the law <3551> was given <1325> by Moses <3475>, [but] grace <5485> and truth <225> came <1096> by Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>.

NRSV - 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.

16 From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

TEV - "The Word of Life" - 1 Before the world was created, the Word already existed; he was with God, and he was the same as God. 2 From the very beginning the Word was with God. 3 Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. 4 The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.

14 The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father's only Son. 15 John spoke about him. He cried out, "This is the one I was talking about when I said, "He comes after me, but he is greater than I am, because he existed before I was born." 16 Out of the fullness of his grace he has blessed us all, giving us one blessing after another. 17 God gave the Law through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is the same as God and is at the Father's side, he has made him known.

<B6> Luke 7

KJV w/Strong# - {19} And John <2491> calling <4341> [unto him] two <1417> of his disciples <3101> sent <3992> [them] to Jesus <2424>, saying <3004>, Art <1488> thou he that should come <2064>? or <2228> look <4328> we for another <243>? {20} When the men <435> were come <3854> unto him, they said <2036>, John <2491> Baptist <910> hath sent <649> us unto thee, saying <3004>, Art <1488> thou he that should come <2064>? or <2228> look <4328> we for another <243>? {21} And in that same <846> hour <5610> he cured <2323> many <4183> of [their] infirmities <3554> and plagues <3148>, and of evil <4190> spirits <4151>; and unto many <4183> [that were] blind <5185> he gave <5483> sight <991>. {22} Then <2532> Jesus <2424> answering <611> said <2036> unto them, Go <4198> your way, and tell <518> John <2491> what <3739> things ye have seen <1492> and heard <191>; how <3754> that the blind <5185> see <308>, the lame <5560> walk <4043>, the lepers <3015> are cleansed <2511>, the deaf <2974> hear <191>, the dead <3498> are raised <1453>, to the poor <4434> the gospel <2097> is preached <2097>. {23} And blessed <3107> is [he], whosoever <3362> shall not <3362> be offended <4624> in me.

NRSV - 19 and sent them to the Lord to ask, "Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?" 20 When the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, "Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?"' 21 Jesus had just then cured many people of diseases, plagues, and evil spirits, and had given sight to many who were blind. 22 And he answered them, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news brought to them. 23 And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me."

TEV - "The Messengers from John the Baptist" - 18 When John's disciples told him about all these things, he called two of them 19 and sent them to the Lord to ask him, "Are you the one John said was going to come, or should we expect someone else?" 20 When they came to Jesus, they said, "John the Baptist sent us to ask if you are the one he said was going to come, or should we expect someone else?" 21 At that very time Jesus healed many people from their sicknesses, diseases, and evil spirits, and gave sight to many blind people. 22 He answered John's messengers, "Go back and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind can see, the lame can walk, those who suffer from dreaded skin diseases are made clean, the deaf can hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is preached to the poor. 23 How happy are those who have no doubts about me!"

<B7> Luke 8

KJV w/Strong# - {4} And when much <4183> people <3793> were gathered <4896> together <4896>, and were come <1975> to him out of every <2596> city <4172>, he spake <2036> by a parable <3850>: {5} A sower <4687> went <1831> out to sow <4687> his seed <4703>: and as he sowed <4687>, some <3588> fell <4098> by the way <3598> side <3844>; and it was trodden <2662> down <2662>, and the fowls <4071> of the air <3772> devoured <2719> it. {6} And some <2087> fell <4098> upon a rock <4073>; and as soon as it was sprung <5453> up, it withered <3583> away, because <1223> it lacked <2192> moisture <2429>. {7} And some <2087> fell <4098> among <3319> thorns <173>; and the thorns <173> sprang <4855> up with it, and choked <638> <1970> it. {8} And other <2087> fell <4098> on <1519> good <18> ground <1093>, and sprang <5453> up, and bare <4160> fruit <2590> an hundredfold <1542>...

{11} Now <1161> the parable <3850> is this <3778>: The seed <4703> is the word <3056> of God <2316>. {12} Those <3588> by the way <3598> side <3844> are they that hear <191>; then <1534> cometh <2064> the devil <1228>, and taketh <142> away <142> the word <3056> out of their hearts <2588>, lest <3361> they should believe <4100> and be saved <4982>. {13} They on <1909> the rock <4073> [are they], which <3739>, when <3752> they hear <191>, receive <1209> the word <3056> with joy <5479>; and these <3778> have <2192> no <3756> root <4491>, which <3739> for a while <2540> believe <4100>, and in time <2540> of temptation <3986> fall <868> away <868>. {14} And that which fell <4098> among <1519> thorns <173> are they, which, when they have heard <191>, go <4198> forth <4198>, and are choked <4846> with cares <3308> and riches <4149> and pleasures <2237> of [this] life <979>, and bring <5052> no <3756> fruit <5052> to perfection <5057>. {15} But that on <1722> the good <2570> ground <1093> are they, which <3748> in an honest <2570> and good <18> heart <2588>, having heard <191> the word <3056>, keep <2722> [it], and bring <2592> forth fruit <2592> with patience <5281>.

NRSV - 4 When a great crowd gathered and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable: 5 "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell on the path and was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up. 6 Some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered for lack of moisture. 7 Some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew with it and choked it. 8 Some fell into good soil, and when it grew, it produced a hundredfold."...

11 "Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 The ones on the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe only for a while and in a time of testing fall away. 14 As for what fell among the thorns, these are the ones who hear; but as they go on their way, they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. 15 But as for that in the good soil, these are the ones who, when they hear the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.

TEV - "The Parable of the Sower" - 4 People kept coming to Jesus from one town after another; and when a great crowd gathered, Jesus told this parable: 5 "Once there was a man who went out to sow grain. As he scattered the seed in the field, some of it fell along the path, where it was stepped on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some of it fell on rocky ground, and when the plants sprouted, they dried up because the soil had no moisture. 7 Some of the seed fell among thorn bushes, which grew up with the plants and choked them. 8 And some seeds fell in good soil; the plants grew and bore grain, one hundred grains each."...

"Jesus Explains the Parable of the Sower" - 11 "This is what the parable means: the seed is the word of God. 12 The seeds that fell along the path stand for those who hear; but the Devil comes and takes the message away from their hearts in order to keep them from believing and being saved. 13 The seeds that fell on rocky ground stand for those who hear the message and receive it gladly. But it does not sink deep into them; they believe only for a while but when the time of testing comes, they fall away. 14 The seeds that fell among thorn bushes stand for those who hear; but the worries and riches and pleasures of this life crowd in and choke them, and their fruit never ripens. 15 The seeds that fell in good soil stand for those who hear the message and retain it in a good and obedient heart, and they persist until they bear fruit.

<B8> Matthew 5

KJV w/Strong# - {8} Blessed <3107> [are] the pure <2513> in heart <2588>: for they shall see <3700> God <2316>.

NRSV - 8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

TEV - "True Happiness" - 3 "Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! 4 "Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them! 5 "Happy are those who are humble; they will receive what God has promised! 6 "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully! 7 "Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them! 8 "Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God! 9 "Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!

<B9> Proverbs 16

KJV w/Strong# - {6} By mercy <02617> and truth <0571> iniquity <05771> is purged <03722>: and by the fear <03374> of the LORD <03068> [men] depart <05493> from evil <07451>.

NRSV - 6 By loyalty and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the LORD one avoids evil.

TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 1 We may make our plans, but God has the last word. 2 You may think everything you do is right, but the LORD judges your motives. 3 Ask the LORD to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out. 4 Everything the LORD has made has its destiny; and the destiny of the wicked is destruction. 5 The LORD hates everyone who is arrogant; he will never let them escape punishment. 6 Be loyal and faithful, and God will forgive your sin. Obey the LORD and nothing evil will happen to you.

<B10> Psalm 25

KJV w/Strong# - {4} Shew <03045> me thy ways <01870>, O LORD <03068>; teach <03925> me thy paths <0734>. {5} Lead <01869> me in thy truth <0571>, and teach <03925> me: for thou [art] the God <0430> of my salvation <03468>; on thee do I wait <06960> all <03605> the day <03117>.

NRSV - 4 Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.

TEV - "A Prayer for Guidance and Protection" - 4 Teach me your ways, O LORD; make them known to me. 5 Teach me to live according to your truth, for you are my God, who saves me. I always trust in you. 6 Remember, O LORD, your kindness and constant love which you have shown from long ago. 7 Forgive the sins and errors of my youth. In your constant love and goodness, remember me, LORD!

<B11> Luke 19

KJV w/Strong# - {1} And [Jesus] entered <1525> and passed <1330> through <1330> Jericho <2410>. {2} And, behold <2400>, [there was] a man <435> named <2564> Zacchaeus <2195>, which <846> was the chief <754> among the publicans <754>, and he was rich <4145>. {3} And he sought <2212> to see <1492> Jesus <2424> who <5101> he was; and could <1410> not for the press <3793>, because <3754> he was little <3398> of stature <2244>. {4} And he ran <4390> before <1715>, and climbed <305> up into <1909> a sycomore <4809> tree <4809> to see <1492> him: for he was to pass <1330> that [way]. {5} And when <5613> Jesus <2424> came <2064> to the place <5117>, he looked <308> up, and saw <1492> him, and said <2036> unto him, Zacchaeus <2195>, make <4692> haste <4692>, and come <2597> down <2597>; for to day <4594> I must <1163> abide <3306> at <1722> thy house <3624>. {6} And he made <4692> haste <4692>, and came <2597> down <2597>, and received <5264> him joyfully <5463>. {7} And when they saw <1492> [it], they all <537> murmured <1234>, saying <3004>, That he was gone <1525> to be guest <2647> with a man <435> that is a sinner <268>. {8} And Zacchaeus <2195> stood <2476>, and said <2036> unto the Lord <2962>; Behold <2400>, Lord <2962>, the half <2255> of my goods <5224> I give <1325> to the poor <4434>; and if <1487> I have taken any <5100> thing from any <1536> man by false <4811> accusation <4811>, I restore <591> [him] fourfold <5073>. {9} And Jesus <2424> said <2036> unto him, This <4594> day <4594> is salvation <4991> come <1096> to this <5129> house <3624>, forsomuch <2530> as he also <2532> is a son <5207> of Abraham <11>. {10} For the Son <5207> of man <444> is come <2064> to seek <2212> and to save <4982> that which was lost <622>.

NRSV - 1 He entered Jericho and was passing through it. 2 A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. 3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. 5 When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today." 6 So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. 7 All who saw it began to grumble and said, "He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner." 8 Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much." 9 Then Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost."

TEV - "Jesus and Zacchaeus" - 1 Jesus went on into Jericho and was passing through. 2 There was a chief tax collector there named Zacchaeus, who was rich. 3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was a little man and could not see Jesus because of the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus, who was going to pass that way. 5 When Jesus came to that place, he looked up and said to Zacchaeus, "Hurry down, Zacchaeus, because I must stay in your house today." 6 Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed him with great joy. 7 All the people who saw it started grumbling, "This man has gone as a guest to the home of a sinner!" 8 Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Listen, sir! I will give half my belongings to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay him back four times as much." 9 Jesus said to him, "Salvation has come to this house today, for this man, also, is a descendant of Abraham. 10 The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

<B12> Matthew 12

KJV w/Strong# - {22} Then <5119> was brought <4374> unto him one possessed <1139> with a devil <1139>, blind <5185>, and dumb <2974>: and he healed <2323> him, insomuch <5620> that the blind <5185> and dumb <2974> both <2532> spake <2980> and saw <991>. {23} And all <3956> the people <3793> were amazed <1839>, and said <3004>, Is not this <3778> the son <5207> of David <1138>?

NRSV - 22 Then they brought to him a demoniac who was blind and mute; and he cured him, so that the one who had been mute could speak and see. 23 All the crowds were amazed and said, "Can this be the Son of David?"

TEV - "Jesus and Beelzebul" - 22 Then some people brought to Jesus a man who was blind and could not talk because he had a demon. Jesus healed the man, so that he was able to talk and see. 23 The crowds were all amazed at what Jesus had done. "Could he be the Son of David?" they asked. 24 When the Pharisees heard this, they replied, "He drives out demons only because their ruler Beelzebul gives him power to do so."

<B13> John 14

KJV w/Strong# - {8} Philip <5376> saith <3004> unto him, Lord <2962>, shew <1166> us the Father <3962>, and it sufficeth <714> us. {9} Jesus <2424> saith <3004> unto him, Have I been <1510> so <5118> long <5118> time <5550> with you, and yet hast thou not known <1097> me, Philip <5376>? he that hath seen <3708> me hath seen <3708> the Father <3962>; and how <4459> sayest <3004> thou [then], Shew <1166> us the Father <3962>?

{11} Believe <4100> me that I [am] in the Father <3962>, and the Father <3962> in me: or <1161> else <1490> believe <4100> me for the very works <2041>' sake.

{16} And I will pray <2065> the Father <3962>, and he shall give <1325> you another <243> Comforter <3875>, that he may abide <3306> with you for ever <165>; {17} [Even] the Spirit <4151> of truth <225>; whom <3739> the world <2889> cannot <1410> receive <2983>, because <3754> it seeth <2334> him not, neither <3761> knoweth <1097> him: but ye know <1492> him; for he dwelleth <3306> with you, and shall be in you.

NRSV - 8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, "Show us the Father'?

11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. 17 This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.

TEV - "Jesus the Way to the Father" - 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way to get there?" 6 Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me. 7 Now that you have known me," he said to them, "you will know my Father also, and from now on you do know him and you have seen him." 8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father; that is all we need." 9 Jesus answered, "For a long time I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why, then, do you say, "Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe, Philip, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I have spoken to you," Jesus said to his disciples, "do not come from me. The Father, who remains in me, does his own work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. If not, believe because of the things I do. 12 I am telling you the truth: whoever believes in me will do what I do -- yes, he will do even greater things, because I am going to the Father.

"The Promise of the Holy Spirit" - 15 "If you love me, you will obey my commandments. 16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. 17 He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is in you. 18 "When I go, you will not be left all alone; I will come back to you. 19 In a little while the world will see me no more, but you will see me; and because I live, you also will live. 20 When that day comes, you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me, just as I am in you.

<B14> John 16

KJV w/Strong# - {12} I have <2192> yet <2089> many <4183> things to say <3004> unto you, but ye cannot <1410> bear <941> them now <737>. {13} Howbeit when <3752> he, the Spirit <4151> of truth <225>, is come <2064>, he will guide <3594> you into <1519> all <3956> truth <225>:...

NRSV - 12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth;...

TEV - "The Work of the Holy Spirit" - 12 "I have much more to tell you, but now it would be too much for you to bear. 13 When, however, the Spirit comes, who reveals the truth about God, he will lead you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own authority, but he will speak of what he hears and will tell you of things to come. 14 He will give me glory, because he will take what I say and tell it to you. 15 All that my Father has is mine; that is why I said that the Spirit will take what I give him and tell it to you.

<B15> Psalm 15

KJV w/Strong# - {1} LORD <03068>, who <04310> shall abide <01481> in thy tabernacle <0168>? who <04310> shall dwell <07931> in thy holy <06944> hill <02022>? {2} He that walketh <01980> uprightly <08549>, and worketh <06466> righteousness <06664>, and speaketh <01696> the truth <0571> in his heart <03824>.

NRSV - 1 O LORD, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy hill? 2 Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right, and speak the truth from their heart;

TEV - "What God Requires" - 1 LORD, who may enter your Temple? Who may worship on Zion, your sacred hill? 2 A person who obeys God in everything and always does what is right, whose words are true and sincere, 3 and who does not slander others. He does no wrong to his friends nor spreads rumors about his neighbors. 4 He despises those whom God rejects, but honors those who obey the LORD. He always does what he promises, no matter how much it may cost. 5 He makes loans without charging interest and cannot be bribed to testify against the innocent. Whoever does these things will always be secure.

<B16> Psalm 48

KJV w/Strong# - {1} Great <01419> [is] the LORD <03068>, and greatly <03966> to be praised <01984> in the city <05892> of our God <0430>, [in] the mountain <02022> of his holiness <06944>.

{3} God <0430> is known <03045> in her palaces <0759> for a refuge <04869>.

{8} As we have heard <08085>, so <03651> have we seen <07200> in the city <05892> of the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, in the city <05892> of our God <0430>: God <0430> will establish <03559> it for ever <05769>.

NRSV - 1 Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God. His holy mountain,

3 Within its citadels God has shown himself a sure defense.

8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God, which God establishes forever.

TEV - "Zion, the City of God" - 1 The LORD is great and is to be highly praised in the city of our God, on his sacred hill. 2 Zion, the mountain of God, is high and beautiful; the city of the great king brings joy to all the world. 3 God has shown that there is safety with him inside the fortresses of the city. 4 The kings gathered together and came to attack Mount Zion. 5 But when they saw it, they were amazed; they were afraid and ran away. 6 There they were seized with fear and anguish, like a woman about to bear a child, 7 like ships tossing in a furious storm. 8 We have heard what God has done, and now we have seen it in the city of our God, the LORD Almighty; he will keep the city safe forever.

<B17> Zechariah 8

KJV w/Strong# - {3} Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; I am returned <07725> unto Zion <06726>, and will dwell <07931> in the midst <08432> of Jerusalem <03389>: and Jerusalem <03389> shall be called <07121> a city <05892> of truth <0571>; and the mountain <02022> of the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> the holy <06944> mountain <02022>.

{5} And the streets <07339> of the city <05892> shall be full <04390> of boys <03206> and girls <03207> playing <07832> in the streets <07339> thereof. {6} Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>; If <03588> it be marvellous <06381> in the eyes <05869> of the remnant <07611> of this <02088> people <05971> in these <01992> days <03117>, should it also <01571> be marvellous <06381> in mine eyes <05869>? saith <05002> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>. {7} Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>; Behold <02005>, I will save <03467> my people <05971> from the east <04217> country <0776>, and from the west country <0776>; {8} And I will bring <0935> them, and they shall dwell <07931> in the midst <08432> of Jerusalem <03389>: and they shall be my people <05971>, and I will be their God <0430>, in truth <0571> and in righteousness <06666>.

NRSV - 3 Thus says the LORD: I will return to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts shall be called the holy mountain.

5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets. 6 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Even though it seems impossible to the remnant of this people in these days, should it also seem impossible to me, says the LORD of hosts? 7 Thus says the LORD of hosts: I will save my people from the east country and from the west country; 8 and I will bring them to live in Jerusalem. They shall be my people and I will be their God, in faithfulness and in righteousness.

TEV - "The LORD Promises to Restore Jerusalem" - 1 The LORD Almighty gave this message to Zechariah: 2 "I have longed to help Jerusalem because of my deep love for her people, a love which has made me angry with her enemies. 3 I will return to Jerusalem, my holy city, and live there. It will be known as the faithful city, and the hill of the LORD Almighty will be called the sacred hill. 4 Once again old men and women, so old that they use canes when they walk, will be sitting in the city squares. 5 And the streets will again be full of boys and girls playing. 6 "This may seem impossible to those of the nation who are now left, but it's not impossible for me. 7 I will rescue my people from the lands where they have been taken, 8 and will bring them back from east and west to live in Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, ruling over them faithfully and justly.
