23 Sing unto the Lord, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation. 24 Declare his glory among the heathen: his marvellous works among all nations.
27 Glory and honour
are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. 28 Give unto
the Lord, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength.
29 Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and
come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
NRSV - 8 O give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. 9 Sing to him, sing praises to him, tell of all his wonderful works. 10 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his presence continually.
23 Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Tell of his salvation from day to day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.
27 Honor and majesty are
before him; strength and joy are in his place. 28 Ascribe to the LORD, O families
of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 29 Ascribe to the LORD
the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come before him. Worship the
LORD in holy splendor;
TEV - "A Song of Praise" - 8 Give thanks to the LORD, proclaim his greatness; tell the nations what he has done. 9 Sing praise to the LORD; tell the wonderful things he has done. 10 Be glad that we belong to him; let all who worship him rejoice! 11 Go to the LORD for help, and worship him continually. 12...13 You descendants of Jacob, God's servant, descendants of Israel, whom God chose, remember the miracles that God performed and the judgments that he gave. 14 The LORD is our God; his commands are for all the world.
19 God's people were few in number, strangers in the land of Canaan. 20 They wandered from country to country, from one kingdom to another. 21 But God let no one oppress them; to protect them, he warned the kings: 22 "Don't harm my chosen servants; do not touch my prophets." 23 Sing to the LORD, all the world! Proclaim every day the good news that he has saved us. 24 Proclaim his glory to the nations, his mighty deeds to all peoples. 25 The LORD is great and is to be highly praised; he is to be honored more than all the gods. 26 The gods of all other nations are only idols, but the LORD created the heavens. 27 Glory and majesty surround him, power and joy fill his Temple. 28 Praise the LORD, all people on earth, praise his glory and might. 29 Praise the LORD's glorious name; bring an offering and come into his Temple. Bow down before the Holy One when he appears; 30 tremble before him, all the earth! The earth is set firmly in place and cannot be moved. 31 Be glad, earth and sky! Tell the nations that the LORD is king. 32 Roar, sea, and every creature in you; be glad, fields, and everything in you! 33 The trees in the woods will shout for joy when the LORD comes to rule the earth.

KJV - 1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.
3 And he shall sit as a
refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge
them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
NRSV - 1 See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight -- indeed, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.
3 he will sit as a refiner
and purifier of silver, and he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine
them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the LORD in righteousness.
TEV - "The Day of Judgment Is Near" - 1 The LORD Almighty answers, "I will send my messenger to prepare the way for me. Then the Lord you are looking for will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger you long to see will come and proclaim my covenant." 2 But who will be able to endure the day when he comes? Who will be able to survive when he appears? He will be like strong soap, like a fire that refines metal. 3 He will come to judge like one who refines and purifies silver. As a metalworker refines silver and gold, so the LORD's messenger will purify the priests, so that they will bring to the LORD the right kind of offerings. 4 Then the offerings which the people of Judah and Jerusalem bring to the LORD will be pleasing to him, as they used to be in the past.

KJV - 23 And Jesus went about [in] all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
NRSV - 23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.
TEV - "Jesus Teaches, Preaches, and Heals" - 23 Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News about the Kingdom, and healing people who had all kinds of disease and sickness. 24 The news about him spread through the whole country of Syria, so that people brought to him all those who were sick, suffering from all kinds of diseases and disorders: people with demons, and epileptics, and paralytics -- and Jesus healed them all. 25 Large crowds followed him from Galilee and the Ten Towns, from Jerusalem, Judea, and the land on the other side of the Jordan.

KJV - 1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
8 Blessed are the pure
in heart: for they shall see God.
NRSV - 1 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
8 "Blessed are
the pure in heart, for they will see God.
TEV - "The Sermon on the Mount" - 1 Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, 2 and he began to teach them:
"True Happiness" - 3 "Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! 4 "Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them! 5 "Happy are those who are humble; they will receive what God has promised! 6 "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully! 7 "Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them! 8 "Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God! 9 "Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!

when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut

NRSV - 6 ...whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
TEV - "Teaching about Prayer" - 5 "When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites! They love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on the street corners, so that everyone will see them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. 6 But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.

KJV
- 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain,
Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his
heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to
pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What
things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye
receive them [you have received it], and ye shall have them
[it].
NRSV - 23 Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, "Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. 24 So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
TEV - "The Lesson from the Fig Tree" - 22 Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God. 23 I assure you that whoever tells this hill to get up and throw itself in the sea and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 For this reason I tell you: When you pray and ask for something, believe that you have received it, and you will be given whatever you ask for. 25 And when you stand and pray, forgive anything you may have against anyone, so that your Father in heaven will forgive the wrongs you have done."
In A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament, Second Edition, New York: United Bible Societies, 1994, page 93), Bruce M. Metzger explains how the original text with the aorist tense (elabete) was changed by later some copyists of the Gospel of Mark. He writes:
The aorist tense, representing the Semitic usage of the prophetic perfect (which expresses the certainty of a future action), seemed too bold and was altered either to the present tense (lambanete) or, under the influence of the parallel in Mt 21:22, to the future tense (lempsesthe).
In Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics: An Exegetical Syntax of the New Testament (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 1996, pages 563-564), Daniel B. Wallace writes:
The aorist indicative can be used to describe an event that is not yet past as though it were already completed. This usage is not at all common... An author sometimes uses the aorist for the future to stress the certainty of the event. It involves a "rhetorical transfer" of the future event as though it were past.

KJV - 1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
27 Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which
indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones,
and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto
men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
NRSV - 1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat; 3 therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach. 4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of others; but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long. 6 They love to have the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, 7 and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have people call them rabbi.
27 "Woe to you,
scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which
on the outside look beautiful, but inside they are full of the bones of
the dead and of all kinds of filth. 28 So you also on the outside look righteous
to others, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
TEV - "Jesus Warns against the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees" - 1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples. 2 "The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees are the authorized interpreters of Moses' Law. 3 So you must obey and follow everything they tell you to do; do not, however, imitate their actions, because they don't practice what they preach. 4 They tie onto people's backs loads that are heavy and hard to carry, yet they aren't willing even to lift a finger to help them carry those loads. 5 They do everything so that people will see them. Look at the straps with scripture verses on them which they wear on their foreheads and arms, and notice how large they are! Notice also how long are the tassels on their cloaks! 6 They love the best places at feasts and the reserved seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to have people call them "Teacher.' 8 You must not be called "Teacher,' because you are all brothers of one another and have only one Teacher. 9 And you must not call anyone here on earth "Father,' because you have only the one Father in heaven. 10 Nor should you be called "Leader,' because your one and only leader is the Messiah. 11 The greatest one among you must be your servant. 12 Whoever makes himself great will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be made great.
"Jesus Condemns Their Hypocrisy" - 27 "How terrible for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look fine on the outside but are full of bones and decaying corpses on the inside. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear good to everybody, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and sins.

KJV - 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
NRSV - 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
TEV - "Hearing and Doing" - 26 Does anyone think he is religious? If he does not control his tongue, his religion is worthless and he deceives himself. 27 What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.

KJV - 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
NRSV - 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
TEV - "Jesus Speaks about His Suffering and Death" - 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone wants to come with me, he must forget himself, carry his cross, and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his own life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 Will a person gain anything if he wins the whole world but loses his life? Of course not! There is nothing he can give to regain his life. 27 For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward each one according to his deeds. 28 I assure you that there are some here who will not die until they have seen the Son of Man come as King."

KJV
- 14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain
man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for
he is lunatick [epileptic], and sore vexed: for ofttimes he
falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy
disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said,
O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long
shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the devil;
and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast
him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief [lack
of faith]: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of
mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place;
and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit
this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. [See footnote
below.]
NRSV - 14 When they came to the crowd, a man came to him, knelt before him, 15 and said, "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly; he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 And I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him." 17 Jesus answered, "You faithless and perverse generation, how much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him here to me." 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" 20 He said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." 21 [Verse omitted in NRSV ]
TEV - "Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon" - 14 When they returned to the crowd, a man came to Jesus, knelt before him, 15 and said, "Sir, have mercy on my son! He is an epileptic and has such terrible attacks that he often falls in the fire or into water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him." 17 Jesus answered, "How unbelieving and wrong you people are! How long must I stay with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring the boy here to me!" 18 Jesus gave a command to the demon, and it went out of the boy, and at that very moment he was healed. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked him, "Why couldn't we drive the demon out?" 20 "It was because you do not have enough faith," answered Jesus. "I assure you that if you have faith as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this hill, "Go from here to there!' and it will go. You could do anything!" 21 [Verse omitted in TEV]
To read a textual commentary of Mar 9:28,29, which explains that Matthew 17:21 was not in the original text of Matthew, browse http://www.bibletexts.com/versecom/mar09v28.htm. It should be noted that the original text of Mar 9:28,29 (the earliest of the four gospels) read:
28 When he entered the house, his disciples asked him in private, "Why could we not drive it out?" 29 He said to them, "This kind can only come out through prayer." (NAB)

KJV - 17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? 18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
26 And as they were
eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the
disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the
[a] cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all
of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins.
30 And when they had
sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
NRSV - 17 On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where do you want us to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?" 18 He said, "Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, "The Teacher says, My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples."'
