<GT> Psalm 22

KJV w/Strong# - {28} For the kingdom <04410> [is] the LORD'S <03068>: and he [is] the governor <04910> among the nations <01471>.

NRSV - 28 For dominion belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations.

TEV - "A Cry of Anguish and a Song of Praise" - 25 In the full assembly I will praise you for what you have done; in the presence of those who worship you I will offer the sacrifices I promised. 26 The poor will eat as much as they want; those who come to the LORD will praise him. May they prosper forever! 27 All nations will remember the LORD. From every part of the world they will turn to him; all races will worship him. 28 The LORD is king, and he rules the nations.

<RR1> Psalm 139

KJV w/Strong# - {1} O LORD <03068>, thou hast searched <02713> me, and known <03045> [me]. {2} Thou knowest <03045> my downsitting <03427> and mine uprising <06965>, thou understandest <0995> my thought <07454> afar <07350> off. {3} Thou compassest <02219> my path <0734> and my lying <07252> down <07252>, and art acquainted <05532> [with] all <03605> my ways <01870>.

{13} For thou hast possessed <07069> my reins <03629>:...

{17} How <04100> precious <03365> also are thy thoughts <07454> unto me, O God <0410>! how <04100> great <06105> is the sum <07218> of them! {18} [If] I should count <05608> them, they are more <07235> in number than the sand <02344>: when I awake <06974>, I am still <05750> with thee.

{23} Search <02713> me, O God <0410>, and know <03045> my heart <03824>: try <0974> me, and know <03045> my thoughts <08312>: {24} And see <07200> if <0518> [there be any] wicked <06090> way <01870> in me, and lead <05148> me in the way <01870> everlasting <05769>.

NRSV - 1 O LORD, you have searched me and known me. 2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. 3 You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

13 For it was you who formed my inward parts;...

17 How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 I try to count them -- they are more than the sand; I come to the end -- I am still with you.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. 24 See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

TEV - "God's Complete Knowledge and Care" - 1 LORD, you have examined me and you know me. 2 You know everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts. 3 You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions. 4 Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. 5 You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. 6 Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding.

13 You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you because you are to be feared; all you do is strange and wonderful. I know it with all my heart. 15 When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother's womb, when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there -- 16 you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book, before any of them ever began. 17 O God, how difficult I find your thoughts; how many of them there are! 18 If I counted them, they would be more than the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.

23 Examine me, O God, and know my mind; test me, and discover my thoughts. 24 Find out if there is any evil in me and guide me in the everlasting way.

<RR2> Psalm 93

KJV w/Strong# - {1} The LORD <03068> reigneth <04427>, he is clothed <03847> with majesty <01348>; the LORD <03068> is clothed <03847> with strength <05797>, [wherewith] he hath girded <0247> himself: the world <08398> also <0389> is stablished <03559>, that it cannot <01077> be moved <04131>. {2} Thy throne <03678> [is] established <03559> of old <0227>: thou [art] from everlasting <05769>.

¡Tú siempre has existido!

NRSV - 1 The LORD is king, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed, he is girded with strength. He has established the world; it shall never be moved;

2 your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.

TEV - "God the King" - 1 The LORD is king. He is clothed with majesty and strength. The earth is set firmly in place and cannot be moved. 2 Your throne, O LORD, has been firm from the beginning, and you existed before time began. 3 The ocean depths raise their voice, O LORD; they raise their voice and roar. 4 The LORD rules supreme in heaven, greater than the roar of the ocean, more powerful than the waves of the sea. 5 Your laws are eternal, LORD, and your Temple is holy indeed, forever and ever.

<B1> John 1

KJV w/Strong# - {1} In the beginning <746> was the Word <3056>, and the Word <3056> was with God <2316>, and the Word <3056> was God <2316>. {2} The same <3778> was in the beginning <746> with God <2316>. {3} All <3956> things were made <1096> by him; and without <5565> him was not any <1520> thing made <1096> that was made <1096>.

NRSV - 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being

TEV - "The Word of Life" - 1 Before the world was created, the Word already existed; he was with God, and he was the same as God. 2 From the very beginning the Word was with God. 3 Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. 4 The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.

<B2> Job 28

KJV w/Strong# - {12} But where <0370> shall wisdom <02451> be found <04672>? and where [is] the place <04725> of understanding <0998>?

{23} God <0430> understandeth <0995> the way <01870> thereof, and he knoweth <03045> the place <04725> thereof. {24} For he looketh <05027> to the ends <07098> of the earth <0776>, [and] seeth <07200> under <08478> the whole <03605> heaven <08064>;

NRSV - 12 "But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

23 "God understands the way to it, and he knows its place. 24 For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees everything under the heavens.

TEV - "In Praise of Wisdom" - 9 Men dig the hardest rocks, Dig mountains away at their base. 10 As they tunnel through the rocks, They discover precious stones. 11 They dig to the sources of rivers And bring to light what is hidden. 12 But where can wisdom be found? Where can we learn to understand?

23 God alone knows the way, Knows the place where wisdom is found, 24 Because he sees the ends of the earth, Sees everything under the sky. 25 When God gave the wind its power And determined the size of the sea; 26 When God decided where the rain would fall, And the path that the thunderclouds travel; 27 It was then he saw wisdom and tested its worth -- He gave it his approval. 28 God said to men, "To be wise, you must have reverence for the Lord. To understand, you must turn from evil."

<B3> Psalm 97

KJV w/Strong# - {1} The LORD <03068> reigneth <04427>; let the earth <0776> rejoice <01523>; let the multitude <07227> of isles <0339> be glad <08056> [thereof].

DHH - 1 ¡Alégrese toda la tierra! ¡Alégrense las islas numerosas! ¡El Señor es Rey!

NRSV - 1 The LORD is king! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!

TEV - "God the Supreme Ruler" - 1 The LORD is king! Earth, be glad! Rejoice, you islands of the seas! 2 Clouds and darkness surround him; he rules with righteousness and justice. 3 Fire goes in front of him and burns up his enemies around him. 4 His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees it and trembles. 5 The hills melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the nations see his glory.

<B4> Psalm 145

KJV w/Strong# - {10} All <03605> thy works <04639> shall praise <03034> thee, O LORD <03068>; and thy saints <02623> shall bless <01288> thee.

{18} The LORD <03068> [is] nigh <07138> unto all <03605> them that call <07121> upon him, to all <03605> that call <07121> upon him in truth <0571>. {19} He will fulfil <06213> the desire <07522> of them that fear <03373> him: he also will hear <08085> their cry <07775>, and will save <03467> them.

DHH - 10 ¡Que te alaben, Señor, todas tus obras!

NRSV - 10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your faithful shall bless you.

18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19 He fulfills the desire of all who fear him; he also hears their cry, and saves them.

TEV - "A Hymn of Praise" - 10 All your creatures, LORD, will praise you, and all your people will give you thanks. 11 They will speak of the glory of your royal power and tell of your might, 12 so that everyone will know your mighty deeds and the glorious majesty of your kingdom. 13 Your rule is eternal, and you are king forever. The LORD is faithful to his promises; he is merciful in all his acts. 14 He helps those who are in trouble; he lifts those who have fallen. 15 All living things look hopefully to you, and you give them food when they need it. 16 You give them enough and satisfy the needs of all. 17 The LORD is righteous in all he does, merciful in all his acts. 18 He is near to those who call to him, who call to him with sincerity. 19 He supplies the needs of those who honor him; he hears their cries and saves them. 20 He protects everyone who loves him, but he will destroy the wicked. 21 I will always praise the LORD; let all his creatures praise his holy name forever.

<B5> Isaiah 43

KJV w/Strong# - {10} Ye [are] my witnesses <05707>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, and my servant <05650> whom <0834> I have chosen <0977>: that ye may know <03045> and believe <0539> me, and understand <0995> that I [am] he: before <06440> me there was no <03808> God <0410> formed <03335>, neither <03808> shall there be after <0310> me.

{15} I [am] the LORD <03068>, your Holy <06918> One, the creator <01254> of Israel <03478>, your King <04428>.

NRSV - 10 You are my witnesses, says the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.

15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.

TEV - "Israel Is the LORD's Witness" - 10 "People of Israel, you are my witnesses; I chose you to be my servant, so that you would know me and believe in me and understand that I am the only God. Besides me there is no other god; there never was and never will be. 11 "I alone am the LORD, the only one who can save you. 12 I predicted what would happen, and then I came to your aid. No foreign god has ever done this; you are my witnesses. 13 I am God and always will be. No one can escape from my power; no one can change what I do."

"Escape from Babylon" - 14 Israel's holy God, the LORD who saves you, says, "To save you, I will send an army against Babylon; I will break down the city gates, and the shouts of her people will turn into crying. 15 I am the LORD, your holy God. I created you, Israel, and I am your king." 16 Long ago the LORD made a road through the sea, a path through the swirling waters. 17 He led a mighty army to destruction, an army of chariots and horses. Down they fell, never to rise, snuffed out like the flame of a lamp!

<B6> Matthew 12

KJV w/Strong# - {29} ...how <4459> can <1410> one <5100> enter <1525> into <1519> a strong <2478> man's house <3614>, and spoil <1283> his goods <4632>, except <3362> he first <4412> bind <1210> the strong <2478> man? and then <5119> he will spoil <1283> his house <3614>.

NRSV - 29 ...how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his property, without first tying up the strong man? Then indeed the house can be plundered.

TEV - "Jesus and Beelzebul" - 29 "No one can break into a strong man's house and take away his belongings unless he first ties up the strong man; then he can plunder his house. 30 "Anyone who is not for me is really against me; anyone who does not help me gather is really scattering. 31 For this reason I tell you: people can be forgiven any sin and any evil thing they say; but whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who says something against the Son of Man can be forgiven; but whoever says something against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven -- now or ever.

<B7> Mark 1

KJV w/Strong# - {14} ...Jesus <2424> came <2064> into <1519> Galilee <1056>, preaching <2784> the gospel <2098> of the kingdom <932> of God <2316>, {15} And saying <3004>, The time <2540> is fulfilled <4137>, and the kingdom <932> of God <2316> is at <1448> hand <1448>: repent <3340> ye, and believe <1722> the gospel <2098>.

{21} And they went <1531> into <1519> Capernaum <2584>; and straightway <2112> on the sabbath <4521> day he entered <1525> into <1519> the synagogue <4864>, and taught <1321>.

{23} And there was in their synagogue <4864> a man <444> with an unclean <169> spirit <4151>; and he cried <349> out, {24} Saying <3004>, Let <1436> [us] alone <1436>; what <5101> have we to do with thee, thou Jesus <2424> of Nazareth <3479>? art thou come <2064> to destroy <622> us? I know <1492> thee who <5101> thou art <1488>, the Holy <40> One of God <2316>. {25} And Jesus <2424> rebuked <2008> him, saying <3004>, Hold <5392> thy peace <5392>, and come <1831> out of him. {26} And when the unclean <169> spirit <4151> had torn <4682> him, and cried <2896> with a loud <3173> voice <5456>, he came <1831> out of him. {27} And they were all <3956> amazed <2284>, insomuch <5620> that they questioned <4802> among <4314> themselves <848>, saying <3004>, What <5101> thing is this <3778>? what <5101> new <2537> doctrine <1322> [is] this <5124>? for with authority <1849> commandeth <2004> he even <2532> the unclean <169> spirits <4151>, and they do obey <5219> him.

¿Has venido a destruirnos?

NRSV - 14 ...Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news."

21 They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught.

23 Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, 24 and he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God." 25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" 26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. 27 They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, "What is this? A new teaching -- with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him."

TEV - "Jesus Calls Four Fishermen" - 14 After John had been put in prison, Jesus went to Galilee and preached the Good News from God. 15 "The right time has come," he said, "and the Kingdom of God is near! Turn away from your sins and believe the Good News!" 16 As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two fishermen, Simon and his brother Andrew, catching fish with a net. 17 Jesus said to them, "Come with me, and I will teach you to catch men." 18 At once they left their nets and went with him.

"A Man with an Evil Spirit" - 21 Jesus and his disciples came to the town of Capernaum, and on the next Sabbath Jesus went to the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people who heard him were amazed at the way he taught, for he wasn't like the teachers of the Law; instead, he taught with authority. 23 Just then a man with an evil spirit came into the synagogue and screamed, 24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you here to destroy us? I know who you are -- you are God's holy messenger!" 25 Jesus ordered the spirit, "Be quiet, and come out of the man!" 26 The evil spirit shook the man hard, gave a loud scream, and came out of him. 27 The people were all so amazed that they started saying to one another, "What is this? Is it some kind of new teaching? This man has authority to give orders to the evil spirits, and they obey him!" 28 And so the news about Jesus spread quickly everywhere in the province of Galilee.

<B8> 2 Corinthians

KJV w/Strong# - {3} For though we walk <4043> in the flesh <4561>, we do not war <4754> after <2596> the flesh <4561>: {4} (For the weapons <3696> of our warfare <4752> [are] not carnal <4559>, but mighty <1415> through God <2316> to the pulling <2506> down <2506> of strong <3794> holds <3794>;) {5} Casting <2507> down <2504> imaginations <3053>, and every <3956> high <5313> thing <5313> that exalteth <1869> itself against <2596> the knowledge <1108> of God <2316>, and bringing <163> into captivity <163> every <3956> thought <3540> to the obedience <5218> of Christ <5547>;

NRSV - 3 Indeed, we live as human beings, but we do not wage war according to human standards; 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments 5 and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.

TEV - "Paul Defends His Ministry" - 1 I, Paul, make a personal appeal to you -- I who am said to be meek and mild when I am with you, but harsh with you when I am away. By the gentleness and kindness of Christ 2 I beg you not to force me to be harsh when I come; for I am sure I can deal harshly with those who say that we act from worldly motives. 3 It is true that we live in the world, but we do not fight from worldly motives. 4 The weapons we use in our fight are not the world's weapons but God's powerful weapons, which we use to destroy strongholds. We destroy false arguments; 5 we pull down every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey Christ. 6 And after you have proved your complete loyalty, we will be ready to punish any act of disloyalty.

<B9> Mark 10

KJV w/Strong# - {13} And they brought <4374> young <3813> children <3813> to him, that he should touch <680> them: and [his] disciples <3101> rebuked <2008> those <3588> that brought <4374> [them]. {14} But when Jesus <2424> saw <1492> [it], he was much <23> displeased <23>, and said <2036> unto them, Suffer <863> the little <3813> children <3813> to come <2064> unto me, and forbid <2967> them not: for of such <5108> is the kingdom <932> of God <2316>. {15} Verily <281> I say <3004> unto you, Whosoever <3362> shall not <3362> receive <1209> the kingdom <932> of God <2316> as a little <3813> child <3813>, he shall not enter <1525> therein <846>. {16} And he took <1723> them up in his arms <1723>, put <5087> [his] hands <5495> upon them, and blessed <2127> them.

NRSV - 13 People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. 14 But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. 15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it." 16 And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

TEV - "Jesus Blesses Little Children" - 13 Some people brought children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples scolded the people. 14 When Jesus noticed this, he was angry and said to his disciples, "Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 I assure you that whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it." 16 Then he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on each of them, and blessed them.

<B10> Proverbs 22

KJV w/Strong# - {6} Train <02596> up a child <05288> in the way <01870> he should go <06310>: and when <03588> he is old <02204>, he will not depart <05493> from it.

{17} Bow <05186> down <05186> thine ear <0241>, and hear <08085> the words <01697> of the wise <02450>, and apply <07896> thine heart <03820> unto my knowledge <01847>.

NRSV - 6 Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.

17 The words of the wise: Incline your ear and hear my words, and apply your mind to my teaching;

TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 1 If you have to choose between a good reputation and great wealth, choose a good reputation. 2 The rich and the poor have this in common: the LORD made them both. 3 Sensible people will see trouble coming and avoid it, but an unthinking person will walk right into it and regret it later. 4 Obey the LORD, be humble, and you will get riches, honor, and a long life. 5 If you love your life, stay away from the traps that catch the wicked along the way. 6 Teach a child how he should live, and he will remember it all his life. 7 Poor people are the rich man's slaves. Borrow money and you are the lender's slave.

  • "The Thirty Wise Sayings" - 17 Listen, and I will teach you what wise men have said. Study their teachings, 18 and you will be glad if you remember them and can quote them. 19 I want you to put your trust in the LORD; that is why I am going to tell them to you now. 20 I have written down thirty sayings for you. They contain knowledge and good advice, 21 and will teach you what the truth really is. Then when you are sent to find it out, you will bring back the right answer.

  • <B11> Psalm 100

KJV w/Strong# - {3} Know <03045> ye that the LORD <03068> he [is] God <0430>: [it is] he [that] hath made <06213> us, and not we ourselves <0587>; [we are] his people <05971>, and the sheep <06629> of his pasture <04830>.

{5} For the LORD <03068> [is] good <02896>; his mercy <02617> [is] everlasting <05769>; and his truth <0530> [endureth] to all generations <01755>.

NRSV - 3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

5 For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

TEV - "A Hymn of Praise"- 3 Acknowledge that the LORD is God. He made us, and we belong to him; we are his people, we are his flock. 4 Enter the Temple gates with thanksgiving; go into its courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise him. 5 The LORD is good; his love is eternal and his faithfulness lasts forever.

    <B12> Psalm 119

    KJV w/Strong# - {65} Thou hast dealt <06213> well <02896> with thy servant <05650>, O LORD <03068>, according unto thy word <01697>. {66} Teach <03925> me good <02898> judgment <02940> and knowledge <01847>: for I have believed <0539> thy commandments <04687>.

    {89} For ever <05769>, O LORD <03068>, thy word <01697> is settled <05324> in heaven <08064>.

    {97} O how <04100> love I <0157> thy law <08451>! it [is] my meditation <07881> all <03605> the day <03117>.

{117} Hold <05582> thou me up, and I shall be safe <03467>: and I will have respect <08159> unto thy statutes <02706> continually <08548>.

DHH - 65 Señor, tú has tratado bien a este siervo tuyo, conforme a tu promesa.

NRSV - 65 You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word. 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.

89 The LORD exists forever; your word is firmly fixed in heaven.

97 Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all day long.

117 Hold me up, that I may be safe and have regard for your statutes continually.

TEV - "The Value of the Law of the LORD" - 65 You have kept your promise, LORD, and you are good to me, your servant. 66 Give me wisdom and knowledge, because I trust in your commands. 67 Before you punished me, I used to go wrong, but now I obey your word. 68 How good you are -- how kind! Teach me your commands. 69 Proud men have told lies about me, but with all my heart I obey your instructions. 70 These men have no understanding, but I find pleasure in your law. 71 My punishment was good for me, because it made me learn your commands.

"Faith in the Law of the LORD" - 89 Your word, O LORD, will last forever; it is eternal in heaven. 90 Your faithfulness endures through all the ages; you have set the earth in place, and it remains. 91 All things remain to this day because of your command, because they are all your servants. 92 If your law had not been the source of my joy, I would have died from my sufferings. 93 I will never neglect your instructions, because by them you have kept me alive. 94 I am yours -- save me! I have tried to obey your commands. 95 Wicked men are waiting to kill me, but I will meditate on your laws.

"Love for the Law of the LORD" - 97 How I love your law! I think about it all day long. 98 Your commandment is with me all the time and makes me wiser than my enemies. 99 I understand more than all my teachers, because I meditate on your instructions. 100 I have greater wisdom than old men, because I obey your commands. 101 I have avoided all evil conduct, because I want to obey your word. 102 I have not neglected your instructions, because you yourself are my teacher. 103 How sweet is the taste of your instructions -- sweeter even than honey!

"Safety in the Law of the LORD" - 113 I hate those who are not completely loyal to you, but I love your law. 114 You are my defender and protector; I put my hope in your promise. 115 Go away from me, you sinful people. I will obey the commands of my God. 116 Give me strength, as you promised, and I shall live; don't let me be disappointed in my hope! 117 Hold me, and I will be safe, and I will always pay attention to your commands. 118 You reject everyone who disobeys your laws; their deceitful schemes are useless. 119 You treat all the wicked like rubbish, and so I love your instructions.

KJV w/Strong# - {12} ...The beloved <03039> of the LORD <03068> shall dwell <07931> in safety <0983> by him; [and the LORD] shall cover <02645> him all <03605> the day <03117> long, and he shall dwell <07931> between <0996> his shoulders <03802>.

NRSV - 12 ...The beloved of the LORD rests in safety -- the High God surrounds him all day long -- the beloved rests between his shoulders.

TEV - "Moses Blesses the Tribes of Israel" - 10 They will teach your people to obey your Law; They will offer sacrifices on your altar. 11 LORD, help their tribe to grow strong; Be pleased with what they do. Crush all their enemies; Let them never rise again." 12 About the tribe of Benjamin he said: "This is the tribe the LORD loves and protects; He guards them all the day long, And he dwells in their midst."

    <B14> Jeremiah 29

KJV w/Strong# - {11} For I know <03045> the thoughts <04284> that I think <02803> toward <05921> you, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, thoughts <04284> of peace <07965>, and not of evil <07451>, to give <05414> you an expected <08615> end <0319>. {12} Then shall ye call <07121> upon me, and ye shall go <01980> and pray <06419> unto me, and I will hearken <08085> unto you.

NRSV - 11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. 12 Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you.

TEV - "Jeremiah's Letter to the Jews in Babylonia" - 10 "The LORD says, "When Babylonia's seventy years are over, I will show my concern for you and keep my promise to bring you back home. 11 I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. 12 Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. 13 You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart. 14 Yes, I say, you will find me, and I will restore you to your land. I will gather you from every country and from every place to which I have scattered you, and I will bring you back to the land from which I had sent you away into exile. I, the LORD, have spoken.'

    <B15> Psalm 18

    KJV w/Strong# - {1} I will love <07355> thee, O LORD <03068>, my strength <02391>.

{30} [As for] God <0410>, his way <01870> [is] perfect <08549>: the word <0565> of the LORD <03068> is tried <06884>: he [is] a buckler <04043> to all <03605> those that trust <02620> in him. {31} For who <04310> [is] God <0433> save <01107> the LORD <03068>? or <0176> who <04310> [is] a rock <06697> save <02108> our God <0430>? {32} [It is] God <0410> that girdeth <0247> me with strength <02428>, and maketh <05414> my way <01870> perfect <08549>.

{35} Thou hast also given <05414> me the shield <04043> of thy salvation <03468>: and thy right <03225> hand <03225> hath holden <05582> me up, and thy gentleness <06038> hath made me great <07235>.

NRSV - 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.

30 This God -- his way is perfect; the promise of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all who take refuge in him. 31 For who is God except the LORD? And who is a rock besides our God? -- 32 the God who girded me with strength, and made my way safe.

35 You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand has supported me; your help has made me great.

TEV - "David's Song of Victory" - 1 How I love you, LORD! You are my defender. 2 The LORD is my protector; he is my strong fortress. My God is my protection, and with him I am safe. He protects me like a shield; he defends me and keeps me safe. 3 I call to the LORD, and he saves me from my enemies. Praise the LORD!

30 This God -- how perfect are his deeds! How dependable his words! He is like a shield for all who seek his protection. 31 The LORD alone is God; God alone is our defense. 32 He is the God who makes me strong, who makes my pathway safe. 33 He makes me sure-footed as a deer; he keeps me safe on the mountains. 34 He trains me for battle, so that I can use the strongest bow. 35 O LORD, you protect me and save me; your care has made me great, and your power has kept me safe. 36 You have kept me from being captured, and I have never fallen. 37 I pursue my enemies and catch them; I do not stop until I destroy them. 38 I strike them down, and they cannot rise; they lie defeated before me. 39 You give me strength for the battle and victory over my enemies. 40 You make my enemies run from me; I destroy those who hate me. 41 They cry for help, but no one saves them; they call to the LORD, but he does not answer.

NRSV - 18 When I thought, "My foot is slipping," your steadfast love, O LORD, held me up. 19 When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.

TEV - "God the Judge of All" - 16 Who stood up for me against the wicked? Who took my side against the evildoers? 17 If the LORD had not helped me, I would have gone quickly to the land of silence. 18 I said, "I am falling"; but your constant love, O LORD, held me up. 19 Whenever I am anxious and worried, you comfort me and make me glad.

    <B17> Romans 8

KJV w/Strong# - {6} ...to be carnally <4561> minded <5427> [is] death <2288>; but to be spiritually <4151> minded <5427> [is] life <2222> and peace <1515>. {7} Because <1360> the carnal <4561> mind <5427> [is] enmity <2189> against <1519> God <2316>: for it is not subject <5293> to the law <3551> of God <2316>, neither <3761> indeed <1063> can <1410> be.

NRSV - 6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law -- indeed it cannot,

TEV - "The Conflict in Man" - 5 Those who live as their human nature tells them to, have their minds controlled by what human nature wants. Those who live as the Spirit tells them to, have their minds controlled by what the Spirit wants. 6 To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace. 7 And so a person becomes an enemy of God when he is controlled by his human nature; for he does not obey God's law, and in fact he cannot obey it. 8 Those who obey their human nature cannot please God.

    <B18> Romans 7

    KJV w/Strong# - {18} For I know <1492> that in me (that is, in my flesh <4561>,) dwelleth <3611> no <3756> good <18> thing: for to will <2309> is present <3873> with me; but [how] to perform <2716> that which is good <2570> I find <2147> not. {19} For the good <18> that I would <2309> I do <4160> not: but the evil <2556> which <3739> I would <2309> not, that I do <4238>. {20} Now <1161> if <1487> I do <4160> that I would <2309> not, it is no <3765> more <2089> I that do <2716> it, but sin <266> that dwelleth <3611> in me. {21} I find <2147> then <686> a law <3551>, that, when I would <2309> do <4160> good <2570>, evil <2556> is present <3873> with me. {22} For I delight <4913> in the law <3551> of God <2316> after <2596> the inward <2080> man <444>: {23} But I see <991> another <2087> law <3551> in my members <3196>, warring <497> against <497> the law <3551> of my mind <3563>, and bringing <163> me into captivity <163> to the law <3551> of sin <266> which <3588> is in my members <3196>. {24} O wretched <5005> man <444> that I am! who <5101> shall deliver <4506> me from the body <4983> of this <5127> death <2288>? {25} I thank <2168> God <2316> through <1223> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> our Lord <2962>...

NRSV - 18 For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. 21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, 23 but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!...

TEV - "The Conflict in Man"- 14 We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am a mortal man, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do; for I don't do what I would like to do, but instead I do what I hate. 16 Since what I do is what I don't want to do, this shows that I agree that the Law is right. 17 So I am not really the one who does this thing; rather it is the sin that lives in me. 18 I know that good does not live in me -- that is, in my human nature. For even though the desire to do good is in me, I am not able to do it. 19 I don't do the good I want to do; instead, I do the evil that I do not want to do. 20 If I do what I don't want to do, this means that I am no longer the one who does it; instead, it is the sin that lives in me. 21 So I find that this law is at work: when I want to do what is good, what is evil is the only choice I have. 22 My inner being delights in the law of God. 23 But I see a different law at work in my body -- a law that fights against the law which my mind approves of. It makes me a prisoner to the law of sin which is at work in my body. 24 What an unhappy man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is taking me to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who does this through our Lord Jesus Christ! This, then, is my condition: on my own I can serve God's law only with my mind, while my human nature serves the law of sin.

    <B19> 1 Corinthians 2

KJV w/Strong# - {16} For who <5101> hath known <1097> the mind <3563> of the Lord <2962>, that he may instruct <4822> him? But we have <2192> the mind <3563> of Christ <5547>.

NRSV - 16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

TEV - "God's Wisdom" - 15 Whoever has the Spirit, however, is able to judge the value of everything, but no one is able to judge him. 16 As the scripture says, "Who knows the mind of the Lord? Who is able to give him advice?" We, however, have the mind of Christ.

NRSV - 1 O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.

TEV - "A Hymn of Praise" - 1 LORD, you are my God; I will honor you and praise your name. You have done amazing things; you have faithfully carried out the plans you made long ago. 2 You have turned cities into ruins and destroyed their fortifications. The palaces which our enemies built are gone forever. 3 The people of powerful nations will praise you; you will be feared in the cities of cruel nations.

God himself defends its walls! 2 Open the city gates and let the faithful nation enter, the nation whose people do what is right. 3 You, LORD, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you. 4 Trust in the LORD forever; he will always protect us. 5 He has humbled those who were proud; he destroyed the strong city they lived in, and sent its walls crashing into the dust.

NRSV - 1 Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you 2 to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it -- not for sordid gain but eagerly. 3 Do not lord it over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief shepherd appears, you will win the crown of glory that never fades away. 5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.

TEV - "The Flock of God" - 1 I, who am an elder myself, appeal to the church elders among you. I am a witness of Christ's sufferings, and I will share in the glory that will be revealed. I appeal to you 2 to be shepherds of the flock that God gave you and to take care of it willingly, as God wants you to, and not unwillingly. Do your work, not for mere pay, but from a real desire to serve. 3 Do not try to rule over those who have been put in your care, but be examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the glorious crown which will never lose its brightness. 5 In the same way you younger men must submit yourselves to the older men. And all of you must put on the apron of humility, to serve one another; for the scripture says, "God resists the proud, but shows favor to the humble." 6 Humble yourselves, then, under God's mighty hand, so that he will lift you up in his own good time. 7 Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you.
